Thanksgiving 2025: A Day of Gratitude and Giving

A Community Coming Together

iCare had the incredible privilege of participating in the New Life Tabernacle Thanksliving event, where we donated turkeys and helped distribute food to families in need. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of community support that made it such a tremendous success.

Hundreds of community members came together to distribute turkeys and gift cards to families in need. The smiles, the gratitude, and the sense of hope that filled the air reminded us exactly why we do this work. No family should have to choose between putting food on the table and paying bills during the holidays, and thanks to this event, many families were able to celebrate without that burden.

The Power of Partnership

This event wouldn’t have been possible without our incredible volunteers who gave their time and energy to make it all run smoothly. From setting up to greeting every family with warmth and compassion, our volunteer team embodied the true spirit of Thanksgiving.

We’re also deeply grateful to our community partners and donors whose generosity made it possible to provide these essential resources. When we work together, we create real, tangible change in our neighbors’ lives.

More Than Just a Meal

At iCare, we know that food security is about more than just one holiday meal. It’s about ensuring that families have consistent access to nutritious food year-round. Our Community Support & Food Security program works throughout the year to address hunger and provide essential resources to those facing hardship across Greater Tampa Bay.

The Thanksliving event is a beautiful reminder of what’s possible when a community rallies around a shared mission. Every turkey distributed and every conversation shared represented hope, dignity, and the promise that no one has to face difficult times alone.

Looking Ahead

As we reflect on the success of this year’s Thanksliving event, we’re already looking forward to continuing our work in the community. Whether it’s through food assistance, educational support, career development, or health awareness programs, iCare remains committed to strengthening underserved communities and empowering families to thrive.

To everyone who volunteered, donated, or simply shared our mission with others — thank you. You are the heart of iCare, and together, we’re building a stronger, more compassionate Tampa Bay.

Help Families in Jamaica Devastated by Hurricane Melissa

Help Families in Jamaica Devastated by Hurricane Melissa

Imagine waking up to a world turned upside down. The roaring winds of hurricane Melissa have fallen silent, but the profound silence left behind speaks volumes. This is the harsh reality for countless families across the island.

The storm, a monstrous Category 5, made landfall with terrifying force. Its winds reached a devastating 185 mph, leaving a path of absolute devastation. For the people of this nation, life has been fractured.

Thousands have lost their homes and now face life-threatening conditions. The need for action is immediate and urgent. This guide exists to show you exactly how your support can make a life-saving difference right now.

Understanding Hurricane Melissa’s Impact on Jamaican Communities

A sprawling, storm-ravaged landscape in Jamaica, where the remnants of Hurricane Melissa have left a trail of destruction. Crumpled buildings, twisted metal, and toppled power lines litter the foreground, casting long shadows under a menacing, cloud-filled sky. In the middle ground, flooded streets and debris-strewn yards paint a grim picture of the hurricane's impact on local communities. The background fades into the distance, revealing the devastation that has left Jamaican infrastructure in a state of disrepair. The scene conveys a somber, ominous atmosphere, emphasizing the scale and severity of the damage through a high-angle, cinematic composition.

Critical systems that communities rely on have been shattered, creating a domino effect of challenges. The storm’s winds and torrential rains caused catastrophic damage across Jamaica, leaving roads collapsed and bridges flooded.

This infrastructure damage has severed access to entire communities. Thousands remain isolated from emergency services days after the disaster. The cascading effects are overwhelming.

Overview of Infrastructure and Environmental Damage

Nearly 400 water systems failed across the island. Over 60% of the population remains without power. Telecommunications networks are down in more than half of the country.

Coastal towns like White House and Black River were reduced to rubble. The flooding has created environmental hazards that threaten public health. Health Minister Christopher Tufton warned about rising risks of waterborne diseases.

Effects on Local Schools, Hospitals, and Shelters

Schools suffered severe damage, eliminating critical shelters for displaced families. Several hospitals in western regions were especially hard-hit by flooding and structural destruction.

Officials announced plans for field hospitals to address the healthcare crisis. The situation represents one of the most comprehensive challenges this island has faced. Understanding the full scope is essential for effective response.

A bustling scene of hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica unfolds. In the foreground, volunteers diligently sort and distribute essential supplies - crates of water, nonperishable food, and medical kits. The middle ground reveals a line of locals patiently waiting to receive aid, their faces etched with resilience. In the background, damaged structures and debris hint at the storm's aftermath, yet the atmosphere is one of community solidarity and determination to overcome the crisis. Warm sunlight filters through the clouds, casting a hopeful glow over the entire tableau. A Leica-style lens captures the scene with a cinematic, documentary-like aesthetic, emphasizing the human stories amidst the natural disaster.

In the wake of the storm, a powerful network of local and international responders has swiftly mobilized. This coordinated emergency response is delivering life-saving assistance where it is needed most.

Local Relief Efforts and Response Teams

The Jamaica Red Cross mobilized 400 dedicated volunteers immediately. These teams are distributing essential supplies like blankets, hygiene kits, and tarpaulins.

Convoys led by officials like Social Security Minister Pearnel Charles Jr. are delivering food, water, and medicine. The Jamaica Defense Force established a satellite relief site to dispatch care packages to isolated areas.

Immediate Needs: Shelter, Food, and Clean Water

The most critical needs are stark. Clean water is the top priority, as water systems were destroyed. Tarps for temporary shelter and canned proteins for nutrition are also desperately required.

Hygiene and cleaning supplies are vital to prevent disease outbreaks in crowded shelters. This aid provides a foundation for recovery.

Actionable Steps to Provide Relief and Support

Taking meaningful action begins with understanding the most effective ways to contribute. Your support can address critical needs and bring hope to affected communities.

How iCare will Respond

Your donations will enable iCare to provide:

iCare will coordinate with community partners to understand evolving needs and deliver targeted assistance to those whose lives have been upended.
