The iCare Holiday Meals Program is one of our most visible and most loved community traditions. Every Thanksgiving and every Christmas, we organize food distributions where families across Greater Tampa Bay receive turkeys and complete holiday food packages to take home and prepare — so they can cook a real holiday meal for the people they love.
From our annual turkey drive to our Christmas food distributions, this program is built on a simple belief: every family deserves to gather around their own table for the holidays. We provide the groceries — families provide the love.
Hunger Doesn't Take a Holiday
The holiday season is often portrayed as a time of abundance — but for tens of thousands of families in Greater Tampa Bay, November and December are among the hardest months of the year. School lunch programs are paused. Utility bills spike. Extra family expenses arrive. And for a family already stretched thin, the idea of a Thanksgiving meal can feel out of reach.
Food insecurity spikes during school breaks because children lose access to the free and reduced-price meals that sustain them throughout the school year. Our Holiday Meals Program fills that gap — providing food packages families can take home and prepare, restoring not just nutrition but the dignity of gathering around their own table.
The Need in Greater Tampa Bay
37,000 children in Hillsborough County face food insecurity — and that number grows during school breaks when free and reduced-price lunch programs are unavailable. The holiday season is when the gap between need and access is widest, and when consistent community programs like ours matter most.
What the Holiday Meals Program Includes
Annual Turkey Drive
Each Thanksgiving, iCare Foundation organizes a community-wide turkey drive to collect and distribute turkeys and full holiday food packages for families to take home and prepare. No family in Greater Tampa Bay should spend Thanksgiving without food to cook.
Holiday Meal Packages
We distribute complete holiday food packages — including proteins, sides, and seasonal food items — so families have everything they need to prepare a full holiday meal at home. Every package is designed to cover a complete family meal from start to finish.
Christmas Food Distribution
Our Christmas food distribution extends our Thanksgiving commitment through the full holiday season — providing families with food packages to take home and prepare so they can focus on what matters most during the most important time of year.
